So Sad So Sad

Janie is sad so sad so sad
Her man makes her mad so mad so mad
The men she tries lovin'
Just sit there and do nothin'
Why can't she get a break
from all this heartache and hate
She needs a man who listens
and dosn't expect her to do all the fixen's
she needs a man to protect her
like her nanny wanted

Janie's year

"There are years that ask questions and years that answer."  Write a speculative response on what the upocoming year will hold for Janie.  Will this eyar be the year that asks questions or one that answers them?  Will this be the year that does both?  Respond to at least three peers.

Janies year will deffinatley be different.. The upcoming year will probably bring Janie more questions than answers. Was it really the best idea to run away with Joe? Is that really what she wants? I don't think running away with Joe will give Janie many answers. She will most likely start questioning everything she does, and she will want to know why things happen the way they do. Janie asks alot of questions in the first place, she will only begin to ask more questions. Not many things will be answered. She jumped into the marriage with Joe really quick and so in time she'll begin to think about things like she alwyas does.

Most people have to live according to their own heart to be happy.

The only person who knows exactly what you  know in life is yourself. And what you what makes you happy in life isn't going to perfectly match somebody else. In order to be happy in this world you have to "follow your heart". If somebody tells you how to run your life, where to go, what to do, how to do it, then it isn't your life it's someone else's and then your not gonna be happy. To be happy you have to do what you want to do. You know what makes you happy so why would you put somebody else in charge? Too may people in the past and even today have tried to live their life by the expectations of their parents. And some might be happy living their life like that, if they enjoy pleaseing their parents all the time. But those dreams your parents make are their dreams not yours. It would make them happy to see you do all the great things they want you to do, but it isn't always what the child wants. This is where we get movies like Step Up and Let it Shine. The teens in these movies go against their parents beliefs on how they should live their life and follow their dreams. Yes the parents don't agree with the decsions their child makes at first, but eventually the teen becomes succesful at following their dreams and get everything they hope for. Then both the child and parent are happy. They followed their dream despite the fact that not everyone was along with the idea but it is what they felt in their heart that made them choose their path. And they ended up happy. To be truley happy you have to follow your heart.

Questions about The Great Gatsby

In chapter 4, Why does Gatsby buy his mansion? Why does Gatsby want Nick to invite Daisy over to his house even though Gatsby has his own impressive home?  How long has Gatsby waited to meet Daisy again?

About half way between West Egg and New York

About half way between West Egg and New York
the motor-road hastily joins the railroad
and runs beside it for a quarter of a mile
so as to shrink away from a certain desolate area of land.

This is a valley of ashes-a fantastic farm
where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens,
where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke
and finally, with a transcedent effort, of men
who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air.

Ocassionally a line of grey cars craws along an invisible track,
gives out a ghasty creak and comes to rest,
and immediately the ash-grey men swarm up
with leaden spades and stir up an impenterable cloud
which screens their obscure operations from your sight. (Fitzgerald 27)

living up to society's expectations.

Society has an unwritten set of rules. Everyone is supposed to follow these rules if we want to be accepted. These rules determine how we should look, what we should wear, how we should act, even how we should live. It determines what is cool or not, and a common goal that everyone should strive for. That goal is money. If we have money, than we can buy the look and lifestyle society thinks is perfect. The sad part is though, is that people will do anything to reach that goal. Some people will simply marry someone so that they can share in their wealth without having to do any hard work to earn that money. People appreciate the value of money when they have to work for it from the ground up. To marry into money is like taking a shortcut, and it often leads to problems. Sometimes people who do not marry into money find other ways to gain it. Those other ways can often lead to bad outcomes. And the reason these people go through all these things for a material item such as money, is that they want to feel apart of something that's important. Money has always been a symbol of power. The more money you have the more power. But what good is power if we use it selfishly? Then there really is no power if it is not changing the world for the better.

Beauty and the Real thing

Within the first 3 seconds of meeting someone, or even just looking at someone, you have made an opinion about that person. It does not matter that you have not said a single word. It is not something we can help it is something we just do. Because of this, looks can be deceiving. I saw a story on tv one time about this man, who even though he had an upper class life style, enjoyed to act like a hobo and travel across America. If you were to see this man one day on the streets, you would just assume he was homeless. The idea of him having a nice car and a huge house would seem impossible. But this is just an example of how looks do not always tell the whole story. Still though, people are too concerend about the way they look. Society is constantly telling us what is "beautiful" or what is "hot", and because of this people are always trying to reach that "perfection". Girls will buy makeup, a mountain of hair products , and more clothes than their closets can hold, just so they can feel pretty. (And because it's fun ofcourse) Even guys are the same way, they care about their looks just as much as girls. The way everybody cares about looks eventually effects who you might spend the rest of your life with. People say that they will date people for their personalities but most start to fall for the way a person looks first. It's just the way things are.

the Need to be the Same

The need to be the same is a common feeling most people have. To change what you do, how you act, and sometimes, even how you look, to fit in with the majority race, is assimilation. Usually assimilation applies to someone who acts "white". Depending on the region of America you are in though, the race or culture that is the majority, might vary. For example in the north the majority of people are white, but along the border states you have a big population of latinos. Either way, if someone is trying to fit in by being like the majority race, then it is assimilation. Assimilation is actually shown in A Raisin In the Sun. Walter states a few times how he would rather be a white man. He comments how white people  have it so much better than them, and how white people are rich. It seems like Walter wants to be white so his family would have a better life. Assimilation is every where. I have even see one of my white friends be called an "honorary Mexican", even though the people who were commenting were not fully Mexican themselves.  Because we live in San Antonio, the majority is hispanics or latinos. Most people try to be more "Mexican", but what do you expect to happen when old ladies you don't even know yell at you because you don't speak spanish?! Just because we live in an area with a high hispanic population, it is expected for people to be more hispanic even if you are not. That's why when you go to the Market square, the majority of people you see are White tourists. Yes I will admit I have assimilated. I have tried hard, and I am still not anywhere close to knowing how to speak spanish. I want to learn how to speak spanish a) so random old ladies won't yell at me, b) so when people asume I speak spanish I actually can, and c) most of my friends can speak spanish. I do try to fit in, but I don't do it so much to where I become somebody I'm not.

Me or My Family

When it comes down to me or my family, it isn't really hard for me to chose. I love my family and everything they do for me. To ask me to put myself first in front of my family would just be ridiculous. There have been times where my mother has just dropped everything she had to numerous times, to bring me something I forgot at home and really needed at school. She has put me first on so many accounts, it would be selfish of me not to give a few things I want, instead of putting her first every now and then. When she's not at work, she's at home making sure me and my brothers don't kill eachother. She's hard working and i would always put her first. But she isn't the only one. My dad has givin up countless days, months, and even a few years, to make sure my family is able to get what we need. Since my dad is in the military, he gets sent away from home alot, but he does it for us. If it wasn't for him, alot of things my family has, and alot of the things my family does, would not be possible.  He dosn't like to be away from us, but he knows it's all for the better. And yes even though I want to kill my two little brothers 99.9999999% of the time I would still put them first. My brothers can be the weirdest people in the world, the most annoying, and the most irritating, yet they can be the most sweetest people when they want to be. But only when they want to be.  I love my family forever and always and I will do anything I can for them.

The American Dream!!

The American Dream is an idea that has been around since long before our country was ever founded. The American Dream is the idea that anybody can do anything they want, think anything they want, be anybody they want to be. We live in a country where if a little boy wants to be a fire fighter, he can be. If a little girl wants to be a doctor, she can be. There is no one person who can tell us that we can not do something. We as Americans, are in charge of our own destiny. As long as a person works hard and puts in enough effort, they can do anything. Being in charge of our own destiny isn't always easy though. Alot of people make the mistake of thinking they can't instead of putting forth all the effort they have and making your dreams come true. The American Dream is THE DREAM. It's the opportunity to make your life into something you want it to be. People shouldn't waste their time and let good opportunities pass them by. In order to take advantage of The American Dream, you have to work for it.

What's my American Dream?
My Dream is undecided. There is so much I want to do, it is hard to decide. Ever since I was 3 years old I have wanted to dance on stage. Though I am quiet and not usually the one to draw attention to myself, I love to perform and be in front of people. As I think about my future it's a little hard not to see myself continuing what I love to do the most! But at the same time I want to be realistic. The chances of me getting into a good performing school, are limited. At the same time though, I love to study space. I want to study astronomy in college and work at NASA. I find the idea of an entire universe beyond our small world so fascinating. Whatever I end up doing though I will always make sure to put family first. Without family I know I would never be able to do it.

Well this is ME!

Well to start things off, I guess I have to talk about myself. My name is Virginia. I was born in San Antonio, Texas. My hobbies are dance, soccer, mariachi, and driving my little brothers around. I've been dancing since Iwas three, but no I am not on the dance team. It's not that I didn't make it, I just never cared enough to try out. I like playing soccer but it's only a hobbie. After high school I probably won't play anymore. And mariachi? I havn't decided yet. I play the violin  but I don't know if it something i would want to keep doing. My family? I live with both my parents and my two brothers. I'm the oldest child and I often have to watch the younger two. The older one is 13, and the younger one is 6. I love them both( most of the time ). Well that is all I am going to say for now so bye!!(:
